For Patients

At Disc Medicine, we’re committed to discovering and developing new medicines to change the treatment of blood-based diseases. We know the journey can bring questions, confusion, and not enough answers. We’re here to change that by always putting patients first and advancing science to make a meaningful difference in the lives of people with blood disorders.

A commitment to patients.
A focus on progress.

Our team of scientists, doctors, and advocates is united by one goal: to develop life-changing therapies where few treatment options exist today. We’re studying new medicines that are based on our understanding of how the body uses iron and makes heme—part of a red blood cell (RBC) that helps carry oxygen through the body—which are both important parts of how RBCs work. By focusing on what causes the disease, we hope to create medicines that can help those who don’t have many treatment options.

What we’re working toward

Our research is focused on helping people with:

Conditions that affect how the body uses iron

Anemias caused by chronic illness
Red squiggly circle with clock hands
Other rare blood diseases with high unmet need

Partnering with the community

At Disc Medicine, we focus on the people we are trying to help—shaping our research and support to meet the real needs of those living with blood disorders. We work with patient organizations, caregivers, and advocacy leaders to ensure the patient voice guides our science at all times. With strong knowledge of how RBCs and iron work in the body, we’re committed to advancing research, supporting education and awareness, and improving access to care through strong community partnerships.

Clinical trials

Joining a clinical trial is a great way to help support the research for potential new treatments. We have ongoing trials in:

Erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP) and X‑linked protoporphyria (XLP)

Anemia of myelofibrosis

Talk to your doctor to learn whether you or a loved one may be eligible for a Disc Medicine trial. If you are interested in learning more and how you can get involved, please email us at ClinicalTrials@discmedicine.com.

Patient access

Science is just part of the story. From early development to real-world impact, we’re committed to supporting patient access—so that the medicines we develop can make a difference for as many people as possible. We’re dedicated to making sure patients get the treatment they need.

Patient resources

We’re committed to raising awareness and advancing education around EPP and XLP. That’s why we created PPIX Is Why, an educational resource designed to help patients, caregivers, and providers better understand the root cause of EPP. Follow along and join the conversation on Facebook or Instagram.
