Associate Director Portfolio and Program Management (PPM)

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Disc Medicine is seeking an Associate Director of PPM to be an integral part of its growing team. Reporting to the Head of PPM, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and integrating technical and cross-functional teams to ensure the advancement of programs in a dynamic and collaborative environment. He/She will manage the program scope, timelines towards deliverables, resources/budget, risks, and decision/alignment for early-stage clinical programs at Disc Medicine, with the potential to also manage discovery stage programs. In collaboration with Global Program Lead (GPL), he/she will understand the program strategy, critical path activities, risks, and mitigation plans; and lead long-range planning.
The ideal candidate must have a solid understanding of the various stages of drug development, including discovery, nonclinical, clinical, and business development. The candidate must also have strong interpersonal, facilitation, organizational, and problem-solving skills to enable effective communication within program teams and throughout the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Partner closely with GPL to drive the development and execution of strategic, integrated program team goals.
- Communicate with cross-functional program team members, executive team members, and key stakeholders on program status, objectives, critical path activities, gaps and challenges, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Drive high-performing, cross-functional teams to promote effective communication and ensure integration and alignment of internal subject matter experts via team meetings and program updates.
- Facilitate cross-functional reporting and presentation of relevant information to program team and other key stakeholders, in particular those pertaining to program deliverables and timelines.
- Foster strong relationships with colleagues at all levels of the organization to support effective and impactful communications to drive decision-making, collaboration, and problem-solving to accomplish program team and company goals.
- Track and monitor key milestones/decision points of both internal and external activities/timeline to drive delivery of program objectives, examples include partnering closely with regulatory affairs, clinical, and CMC colleagues.
- Facilitate team meetings using program management best practices and tools to drive cross-functional communication, timely and effective decision making, and successful execution of program objectives.
- Develop and maintain risk registry along with other PPM team members, including detailed risk assessments, mitigations, and resolutions.
- Partner closely with finance colleagues to develop budgets/forecasts/long-range plans for assigned program(s) to support the management of line function activities, and to ensure effective use of resources throughout the year.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS/MS in a scientific-related field with PMP certification (preferred).
- At least 5 years of experience in the life sciences, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, and within that at least 3 years of experience as a program or project manager.
- Strong interpersonal skills with ability to engage, focus, negotiate and resolve conflicts internally and externally across multiple stakeholders to identify and resolve key program issues.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation facilitation.
- Navigates complexity and ambiguity to adapt to evolving priorities in a fast-paced environment; comfortable with managing multiple tasks and balancing competing priorities effectively.
- Proficiency with commercially available program management and timeline management tools.
