Associate Director/Director, Biology

SUMMARY:

DISC Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and scientifically rigorous biologist to help advance drug discovery programs focusing on targets which play a role in iron homeostasis. The successful candidate will plan and execute the biology strategy for one or more drug discovery programs, inform on-target mechanism of action, and explore and validate therapeutic hypotheses in preclinical animal models. The ability to work collaboratively within the cross-functional teams, manage external research via CRO or academic collaborations, and advance programs through preclinical development milestones is a key to the success in this position. This person will report to VP, Head of Biology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide biology leadership for drug discovery project teams.
  • Ensure efficient progression of drug discovery projects by managing the activities of multiple CROs in collaboration with Disc scientists across relevant disciplines within the organization.
  • Identify and work with contract research organizations (CROs), consultants and academic collaborators to design and execute studies to demonstrate proof of concept.
  • Design and oversee in vitro and in vivo studies to demonstrate efficacy, discover and validate pathways and biomarkers associated with mechanism of action and drug response.
  • Collaborate and contribute to multi-disciplinary drug development teams.
  • Present results to internal and external audiences including leadership team, partnership organizations and scientific conferences.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ph.D. with 5+ years, or M.S. with 10+ years, of experience in the biopharmaceutical or biotech industry.
  • Demonstrated expertise in molecular cell biology and in vivo efficacy studies.
  • Domain knowledge in heart diseases, kidney diseases, hematology, inflammatory diseases, or anemia research is preferred.
  • Experience in managing CROs is required.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to facilitate and lead conversations while driving towards a collective decision.
  • Work collaboratively and proactively in cross-functional, fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Excellent strategic and planning organization skills to manage projects to meet key deliverables.
